What is Travel Insurance?

And is it worth getting?

First and foremost, this is USA edition. I apologize for my non-USA readers, however each country has different rules and regulations regarding travel insurance. So please check with yours.

Now before we dive into the travel insurance
every travel addict will tell you to get a travel credit card before booking your next trip. Including myself.

If you don’t know what card to consider, please read my list of
credit card recommendations

The following reasons to get a travel credit can include, but not limited to:
- points / miles to earn towards free travel
- trip protection / insurance
- free check in luggage
- lounge access
- TSA Precheck or Global Entry reimbursement

So notice that trip protection is listed as a benefit?
That is because many* travel credit cards do offer some* type of protection when traveling, such as car rental or flight or baggage protection.

*(terms vary depending on the card; read the terms + conditions before applying)

BUT… this does not equate to travel insurance!!
Travel insurance is there to save you if a true emergency happens.
It works like having medical coverage, as well as travel coverage, during your entire trip. Something as spontaneous as an allergy attack or a fall from a hike could seriously impede on your trip without having travel insurance.

Another huge benefit? It can cover the things that your credit card cannot.
If your credit card offers certain protection regarding your bags, but lets say your credit card offers nothing regarding delayed flights… your travel insurance can step in and help you out.

One of the main reasons people do not get travel insurance, is because they believe that it costs a lot of money.
But the truth? It’s actually very affordable!

When we did our around-the-world trip over the span of 3 months,
we paid only $25/per person, per month, for travel insurance!

AND the best part? You can skip the ‘protection’ options that airlines and car rental places try to bribe you to get! Seriously, it’s a win-win situation!

Where did we find such affordable travel insurance?
We found it from a travel insurance marketplace!

The marketplace compares different travel insurance plans from different providers, and you can pick + choose which plan best fits your needs, and best fits your budget.

As a travel agent, I strongly urge you to please get the travel insurance. It is not worth risking your entire trip, especially since the travel insurance is now very affordable!
